D1 Academics

Developing capable, self-directed learners

D1 Academics is a Cybernetic Initiatives edtech project dedicated to developing the next generation of AI and STEM innovators.

It pairs a technology product with curriculum pathways, coaching, mentorship, and community. Built to sharpen reasoning and reinforce disciplined learning, not to replace educators, tutors, or parents.

Educational direction

Reasoning, attention, and increasing autonomy

D1 Academics seeks to develop:

  • Strong foundations in mathematics, science, computer science, and AI.
  • First-principles understanding rather than shortcut answers.
  • The ability to sustain attention and practice deliberately.
  • Increasing independence in planning, execution, and review.
  • Using AI responsibly to strengthen reasoning and independent thinking.

Planned R&D — not current functionality

From static rules toward contextual support

Planned research will examine whether a more context-aware system can support older learners, whose legitimate device use is too varied for reliable enumeration.

Context-aware activity classification

Phase IB will prototype ways to classify activity as productive work, a healthy break, or unproductive use in light of learner goals and context.

Goal-aware support

Phase IB will prototype schedule recommendations, next actions, and prompts intended to redirect distraction toward goal-aligned work.

Mediated AI tutoring

Phase IB will prototype a D1-controlled portal that mediates third-party AI access and tests reasoning-oriented tutoring directives.

Coordinated device governance

Phase IB will prototype multi-PC configuration, limited centralized controls, selected LMS signals, and a native host for desktop applications.

Department of Education IES SBIR Phase IB

Cybernetic Initiatives has submitted a Phase IB SBIR proposal to the Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences (solicitation 91990026R0004).

The proposal is pending review; submission does not guarantee selection or award.
